Launch of the Erbil Green Belt Project – Planting 7 Million Trees

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has officially inaugurated the Erbil Green Belt Project by planting the first tree — a landmark step toward building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Kurdistan.

The Arjaa Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development (AIRDUSA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Kurdistan Regional Government and Prime Minister Barzani for this visionary initiative, which represents a major milestone in regional environmental stewardship.

Under this ambitious project, seven million olive and pistachio trees will be planted around Erbil to combat carbon emissions, enhance air quality, and expand the city’s green coverage to 25%, aligning with international sustainability and climate resilience standards.

This initiative stands as a powerful commitment to protecting biodiversity, restoring the ecosystem, and securing a sustainable and prosperous future for the people of the Kurdistan Region.
