Meeting the Iraqi Ambassador in Rome A warm and historic meeting with Iraq’s distinguished ambassador, His Excellency Dr. Saywan Saber Barzani, son of the heroic martyr Saber Mulla Mustafa Barzani, who was executed by the former regime along with two of his brothers for their refusal to submit to its will, as they stood bravely against tyranny. Three sons of Kurdish leader Mulla Mustafa Barzani — Saber, Luqman, and Ubaidullah — were martyred while serving in ministerial positions in the Iraqi state at that time. May their pure souls rest in eternal peace. It was an honor to accompany HE. Ambassador Dr. Saywan and be welcomed as his guest after a journey of more than 14 kilometers on foot along the outskirts of Rome. In addition to the Barzani family’s distinguished history of noble values, forgiveness, and honorable national stances, Dr. Saywan’s character embodies even higher principles. Iraqi diplomats regard him as one of the most outstanding figures in diplomacy, culture, and humanitarianism, known for his integrity, dedication, and professionalism. His simplicity and humility in dealing with everyone further distinguish him. “For those who humble themselves before God, God raises their stature.” My deepest thanks to His Excellency Dr. Saywan Barzani for his valuable time and generous hospitality.
Dr. Serwan A. Ismail
Former Deputy and Secretary-General of the Iraqi Parliament
